Antwerp to get smart water meters

The water company water-link and the City of Antwerp are starting a pilot project involving new smart water meters. By 2020, all Antwerp’s citizens will be able to monitor their water consumption every day via the internet or various apps. In the first phase, 1,000 families will get one of these smart meters for a year. Demeaning water disconnections in Antwerp will be consigned to the past, because the new system will permit an absolute minimum of water to flow from taps, as is the case with smart gas and electricity meters. The new meters also make it easier to detect leaks, and improve security. Thieves can also no longer pass themselves off as meter readers, since the latter will gradually be phased out.
